The book of Tula: When Gay Was Queer

Charles ‘Tula’ Miller offers us the opportunity to be immersed in an era of Fort Wayne’s history that is often hidden. He was the owner of the first gay bar in town and is Indiana’s oldest, working female impersonator having started 58 years ago at a time when being a ‘classic beauty’ was paramount.

Tula has never considered not being true to self even in the early years. He credits his parents who allowed and encouraged him to be bold and open even when it resulted in stigma and challenge. Because of that willingness to live authentically, there are many more chapters in The Book of Tula, all told with beautiful honesty. He welcomes you to join him in conversation.
