The Unshakeable Truths of a Queer Affrillachain
Jay Watts grew up in Appalachia (Kentucky) with a hard working single mom, an illiterate sharecropping-coal miner grandpa, and in an environment of steep poverty and racism.
She says: "My experiences with being resource gapped, a woman of color, and Queer in a rural, conservative environment has shaped who I am today. Intersecting my experiences as a multiple survivor of sexual abuse and domestic violence, my life has been a series of challenges that I’ve been able to find power in and advocate for others to find the same within themselves."
She uses a mixture of raw truths, humor, and pain to speak her empowering, hope-filled, coming-of-ages story that, as she says, "only gets better with every chapter."
